SACs has been at the Third Avenue
location in Cambridge for 30 years now. When first opened, lunch
was served to seniors for $.50, and the only activity was weekly card
games for the Golden Agers.
For many years "Senior Proms" were held at SACs, and they were
reported to be great fun!
A community breakfast has been served at SACs for more than 20 years
now. For the first several years it was a monthly pancake
breakfast. After that the pancake breakfast was held weekly.
The menu was gradually expanded to the great breakfast that is now
offered every Friday morning from 8 to 9 am. If you have not
had a chance to try it come by soon, you will love it! Proceeds
from breakfast help support SACs activities and programs.
The Gift Shoppe at SACs was opened about 15 years ago. There is an
amazing assortment of cards, and small gifts packed into a small space.
Proceeds from the Shoppe help support SACs activities and programs.
A major remodeling project was completed in 1999. The result was
office space and a new, spacious, stainless steel, NSF approved kitchen.
A basement was also included which provides much needed storage space.
The City of Cambridge obtained a grant from the Area Agency on Aging,
and matching funds were acquired through fund raising events and
donations from the community.
Cambridge and the local seniors are very fortunate to have SACs on
